Overview

BC Elite Invitational 1 is the first event from BC Chess Masters — a two-day, five-game tournament across two CFC-rated sections.

The two sections are Open (2000+) & U2000 (unrated-1999) and. The event is capped at 25 players in total and registration runs on a first-come, first-served basis. Players rated 1900–1999 may play up into Open on request. Every game is CFC-rated.

Format & Eligibility

Time control
50 minutes + 10-second increment (Rounds 1, 2, 3) · 90 minutes + 30-second increment (Rounds 4, 5).
Sections
  • Open — 2000 and above
  • U2000 — unrated to 1999
Players rated 1900–1999 may play up into Open A $20 play-up fee applies — see Entry Fee. BC Chess Masters reserves the right to merge the U1500 and U2000 sections based on # of entries.
Rating
All games are CFC-rated. A current CFC membership is required to play — see the CFC Membership note below.
Forfeit time
Players are forfeited after 30 minutes in the 50+10 rounds, and after 60 minutes in the 90+30 rounds.
Tie-break policy
Ties are broken in the following order:
  1. Direct Encounter
  2. Buchholz Cut 1
  3. Buchholz
  4. Sonneborn-Berger

Policies

Capacity

The event is capped at 25 players in total, across both sections. Registration is first-come, first-served and closes when full.

Tournament policies

  • Fair play and CFC conduct rules apply throughout the event.
  • Electronic devices: all devices are to be stored away. A device found on a player's person, or ringing, results in a forfeit of the round and potential disqualification from the tournament at the arbiter's discretion.
  • Photography is permitted during the first 5 minutes of each round.
  • No food in the playing area.
  • Byes: up to two ½-point byes may be granted per player, and must be requested beforehand. Bye requests for the next round received during the tournament must be made before that round is paired. A bye for round 5 is worth 0 points.

Refund policy

Full refund on or before August 8. 50% refund before August 27. No refund after registration closes on August 28.

Withdrawals

If a player wishes to withdraw from the event, notice must be given before rounds are paired. Once rounds have been paired, withdrawals will not be considered.
